Chiropractic

Your body wants to move! Chiropractic care helps your body function at its optimal level. When your body can move freely and fully, and your muscles are strong and lean, you should not experience pain. Your chiropractic treatment includes a combination of “adjusting” or mobilizing the joints, deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, stretching and rehabilitation exercises. Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) may be recommended to speed and promote healing. We may discuss nutrition and lifestyle changes to maintain wellness. Our chiropractors spend as much time with you as necessary. Treatment times range from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on your needs.

Chiropractic and Pregnancy

What is chiropractic care during pregnancy? Chiropractic care during pregnancy aims to restore a state of balance and creating an optimal environment for you and your baby. We focus specifically on your pelvis throughout pregnancy to provide for an easier and safer delivery. Chiropractic care during pregnancy is both safe and gentle.

Greater comfort to mom: A large percentage of pregnant women experience back discomfort or pain during pregnancy. This is due to the rapid growth of the baby and the physical stresses created by an ever-changing body. Pre-existing unnoticed imbalances in your spine and pelvis may become aggravated during this stressful period. Additionally, routine, daily activities may become difficult. Chiropractic care can relieve and even prevent common discomforts experienced during pregnancy. Specific adjustments eliminate these stresses to your spine, restore balance to your pelvis and result in greater comfort for you.

Comfort for your baby: As your baby develops, your uterus enlarges to accommodate rapid growth. If your pelvis is balanced, the ligaments connected to the uterus maintain equalized, supportive suspension for the uterus. If your pelvis becomes out of balance, these ligaments become torqued and can compromise the space for the developing baby. If the woman’s uterus is constrained as birth approaches, the baby is prevented from getting into the best possible position for delivery. An even slightly incorrect baby position during delivery will slow down labor and may cause additional pain.

Safer Birth: Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy restores balance to your pelvic muscles and ligaments and therefore leads to safer and easier delivery for you and your baby. Additionally, the chiropractic adjustment eliminates interference to your nervous system, allowing your uterus to function at its maximum potential. Recognized studies indicate that chiropractic care does in fact reduce labor time.

Your Chiropractic Treatment: The most important fact to remember is the treatment is gentle and safe. You will not be put into positions that make you or your baby uncomfortable. In fact, most women welcome the opportunity to lay face down. The chiropractic table has a specially designed removable segment which allows the mother’s belly to fit in comfortably. We can use special pregnancy pillows to give some added room for the growing belly or have you laying on your side. Most of the treatment involves working on the muscles and ligaments of the pelvis, restoring balance and movement. We will also perform soft tissue work, such as massage and trigger point therapy. Regular therapeutic exercises and stretching keep spinal musculature strong, balanced, and pain-free. We can also work on your feet to help improve circulation and relieve pain.
